First things first, Steelers Nation we now have our first franchise QB since Bradshaw. So good for us and congratulations Big Ben.

Now, down to business, since we have our 102 million dollar guy, our next step should be obvious. Draft appropriately for offensive linemen so we can keep Ben vertical. Although, everyone thinks that way, I have a different point of view. I still think we need help on the defensive side of th ball. Our boys on the DL are getting old and our secondary still does not have a "shut down" corner. I feel this is where we need to look in the draft. I think the OL is in good shape, yes even after the exodus of Faneca. Let's think about this, we have known for a few years that this departure was inevitable and so did the Steeler organization.

We took a good step in signing Mewelde Moore. This guy has great return capabilities and do not forget, we signed a sleeper in this position, Jeremy Bloom.

Our running back situation is not that bad off and the offense will be even better this coming year.

So,I believe our coaches now have last year under their belt and hopefully will not make the play calling mistakes that happened last year.

I think I gave you all lots to think about and I hope to see you at the party on March 9th.

    Steeler Mike out!!!!!

To all those who attended the Steelers party, I would like to say, Thank You!!! from the bottom of my Steelers heart.

I believe we had a great day and once again showed the heart of Steelers Nation. I also would like everyone to thank the staff of Calypso Beach Cafe for letting us have our party. They provided not only the use of the back room, but put all the food on the table. J.R., the chef, is becoming quite the pierogie chef!!!! So thank you kitchen staff.

Well, it looks like the next big event is the draft in late April, so All of you need to be there for support of our 23rd pick whomever that may be. I just hope it goes well for us. After that Tina and I will host the May get together and the date will be determined at the draft weekend.

I would like to say it is great being part of the Steelers Nation here in Panama City Beach with all of you and I am looking forward to a great 2008-09 season.

Enjoy the website and we'll see you at the draft. Feel free to blog anytime, because I will blog back.

    Hi Everyone,
I'm up in Buckeye country finding lots of Steelers fans. Trying to get my medical problem solved which didn't happen in June. I'm about 10 miles from Fred & Rae's high school? southeast of Columbus out in the beautiful rainy, green farmlands. Doing a camping experience here with my travel trailer. Beautiful area except for tons of rain.
Going to PA next week for family reunion in Clarion county and then drive past Heinz stadium on way back here. Are there any plans for Jacksonville?? Would like to go for that game.

Looking forward to coming down and checking out the season opener v. the Texans in September. Me and the wife make a point to coming down from B'ham, AL a couple of times a year to enjoy a Steelers game with you guys. You guys have a great setup/atmosphere and it makes the games extremely enjoyable.

We're gonna make it up to Nashville in Dec. to see the Steelers take on the Titans. Any of you guys gonna make the trip there or to Jacksonville? We're definitely going to the Titans game and are toying with the thought of going to J'ville.

Regardless, looking forward to the Texans game and making our way down to Calypso's (Vikings game is only a month away). It's been a long offseason and thank god for the NFL on Sirius and the NFL Network.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Jaguars refuse to sell tickets to Steelers fans for October 5. Therefore, the best and easiest way to purchase tickets is to go to either www.stubhub.com, www.razorgator.com, or EBay. You will have to pay a little more than face value depending on the location of the seats, but this is the only way to get tickets and they are available.

If you do plan on coming to Jacksonville, my fan club of which I am the Vice President (JAXB.A.G. - Jacksonville Black and Gold) will be holding a massive pep rally on Saturday, October 4 from Noon till whenever. We did the same thing two years ago and ended up in NFL Films' documentary on Steelers Nation. This one is guaranteed to be bigger and better at our new headquarters. Greg Lloyd will most likely be there and we are having a dunk tank for charity among other great events. Feel free to email me for more information!

How good did Woodley look last night? He was in the backfield an awful lot and is starting to look like he may join the list of outstanding Steeler LB's. If he can be consistent, the prospects of having him on one side and James Harrison on the other is starting to look really good.

Did you see the last play of the first half where he quite simply put the Vikings RT flat on his back on the way to dusting Frerotte? Impressive...

I know we have a tough schedule on paper but that's only on paper. Every team will have adversity, the Giants just lost their all pro defensive end for the season. Also free agency changes the make up of a team and thus the chemistry which is so important. I think the Steelers core has faith in each other and with Ben and Santonio on the same page this season I look for good things for our Steelers. When the going gets tough the Steelers get going.

Well week 1 is in the books. Before I talk about the game, I want to say thanks to all those who were at Calypso's. Jean and her crew, Joe and B.C. (Tara), and the Tailgaters you all were awesome and glad you could join us.

Now for the game, yes we beat the Houston Texans decisively and it was awesome, but we were expected to beat them. It was a great tune up for the team, but it was not a good test of our troops yet. I am not saying anything more than we need to build on each win, but the Texans are not that good.

Let's talk about the game, WOW. Our offensive line looked above average and our defense, i.e. Woodley and Farrior, looked primed to be the best in the league again. And rightly so. Usually the defense is far more advanced at the beginning of the season over the offense but, I did not see that yesterday. What i saw was a team that has a mission for Tampa.

Ben was incredibly efficient, 13 of 14 and two TD'S. Willie was a stud and he is back as good as ever. Oh, by the way the old guy, #86, had a pretty good day for being on the down side of his career. The offense as a whole gets a grade of "A" from me for the game. Being efficient was the key.

Moving on to the defensive side of the ball. If what we saw yesterday is the sign of things to come, we as Steeler fans are in for a huge treat this year from this side of the ball. Lamar Woodley is the real deal!!!!!!!!!!!! The pressure of the linebackers really helped our secondary fly around and have a good day. But I want to talk about the D-line. Our front three were incredibly impressive. And yes even the "fat boy" (Casey Hampton) looked great. He basically had his way. And a shout out goes to Nick Eason who had a stellar day. The defense gets a grade of "A+".

To sum things up, the Black and Gold had the type of day they were supposed to have. We can use this game as a platform to the next match up, Cleveland. And if what I saw from them yesterday, this should be another game were we should be efficient and we should win. The key to being a winning team is to beat the teams you are supposed to beat and win your division. If things look the way they do in our division, based on yesterday, we should be fine.

And finally for this blog, the AFC is now wide open based all the goings on from yesterday, think about that, and what does that mean for our Steelers???

    Talk to you next week

In any case he talks about the fact that Steeler fans are known for their anxieties and refers to the opener in 2003 when we spanked the Ravens and then went the next six games without a victory and watched Baltimore win the division. Maybe I've been around too long but I will withhold my accolades at least until after Sunday night in Cleveland. Well we are 2-0 and feeling good with our team so far. I thought the Clevelnd game was going to be us blowing them out, but instead Mother Nature blew both teams into a defensive struggle. Bottom line is that the Steelers know how to win these games and the Brownies are still in their diapers wishing they could learn how to be a real team.
Anyway, we won and I know that I am late with my blog, but it was one of those games we needed to win like I stated last week. On to some very important voting, Troy is up for defensive player of the week and Fast Willie is up for Fed Ex ground player of the week. Go to nfl.com and find the link to vote.
So, let's look ahead to this week. I am worried a little about this game. The Steelers have not won in Philly since 1965. That is eight times for all of you keeping track. Now for the real reason that I am worried, DeSaun Jackson. He is going to test our secondary and Keisel being out will test our ability for our D-line to get penetration to keep McNabb in the pocket. Our defense is the key, in my opinion, to this game. Offensively we will keep bringing the efficient play we have seen the past two games. I think the twist this week is that we see more Heath Miller and Santonio. This is strictly based on the highlights I saw of the Cowboys-Eagles game. The Eagles secondary looked like they could not match up well with these two positions. And yes, the O-line will protect Ben this week because they are getting better as a group. Final score: Steelers 28-Eagles 21. Yep, that's right, I am saying we are going to end the 8 game at Philly losing streak. 3-0 sounds pretty good going to Baltimore, but we shall see.

And finally I would like to thank all fo you who made it out to the game last week, it was an impressive showing for a Sunday night game. Shout out to the family from Eglin Air force base and those of you from the Burgh.

Everything's fine up here...glad to see all ended up well in regards to the hurricane and all.

The game was much more of a struggle than I expected but the weather was a definite factor and I was happy to just get a W considering the circumstances...especially on the road. The play of McFadden (with Townsend being out) was encouraging as the secondary did a great job on Edwards (did you see the big hit that Clark put on him?) and the front seven made Jamal Lewis a complete non-factor.

Ben looks fine to me as the media kept playing up his injury as he continually fired darts through the heavy wind. Maybe it's worse than I think, but I heard Tomlin on the radio the other day and he was kind of pissed at how the media was covering the injury and pretty much said that they were blowing it completely out of proportion.

We'll find out about the D this week as Philly's offense was impressive the other night but I think that our guys match up well with them (with pretty much anyone, for that matter) I hate that Keisel got hurt but maybe he'll come back strong...the D-line depth concerns me, but it is what it is.

On a side note, I hope to see Mendenhall/Sweed/Mewelde Moore to make some sort of contribution soon.

I wish that we could come down for the game this week as this is gonna be an interesting matchup. We really enjoyed hanging out with you guys the other week and look forward to making a return trip as you all made us really feel at home. You guys have a great group down there and I wish we had something up here similar...to say the least, I am extremely jealous of the setup, atmosphere, fellowship, etc, that you all have down there. Before we head to the city of "Brotherly Love", I really doubt there will be much of that on Sunday, I just wanted to say I was very encouraged at the end of the game in Cleveland. With about 4 minutes left we turned the ball over to the offense to close out the game and Ben and company didn't disappoint us. The ability of our offense to do this will take a lot of pressure off the defense as the season wears on. The "4 minute drill" as it is being called seems to be an effective method of putting the game away when we have that late lead as we had in so many games last season that ended in those disappointing losses.

I believe this will be the year we end our losing streak in Philly, wouldn't this be the 7 year itch in a marriage? well I think the honeymoon is over for the Eagles. Our offense is jelling and the defense seems to be rejuvinated with the addition of Woodley on the outside opposite Harrison.

Prediction: Our Stillers 31, the Eagles 17. They may stop Willie, I'm not sure they can although they may slow him down a little. But they won't stop Ben, Hines, Santonio, Miller, must I go on?

There may be a hurricane in Philly this Sunday but it will be named Polamalu.

We took it on the chin today, I don't mind losing I do mind getting beat up, this is usually reserved for Baltimore or the Jacksonburgh Jags. Today however we learned a little about our team, and a lot about our offensive coordinator, Mr. Arians. I said last year he wasn't ready for the job and I think today cemented it. However as I also said I know very little about football so lets hope for better next week. A little humility never hurt anyone.

I am stunned by the inability of our offensive coaches to make in game adjustments. For goodness sake this is the NFL. Before I rant about the offense, I would like that staff to look on the other side of the ball and see how a coach prepares his players for a game. Because the defense was again awesome. Hats of to them!!!

We all new this was going to be a tough, hard hitting game, but no one thought that our Big Ben was going to get hammered. Coach Tomlin and Coach Arians are absolutely the ones who lost the game for us. The field goal issue was minor compared to the inability for these two to have an actual offensive game plan. I realize it's only week three but Steeler Nation will not stand for losing in such an inept way. Absolutely inexcusable!!!!!!!!!!

We as fans of our team understand the game and knowing this we cannot for the life of us figure out why we looked like a team that has never seen a game plan. This fan demands more from our coaches to have us ready to go for Baltimore. I am so upset at this loss I don't think I can talk about it anymore. Hakuna Matata!

Looking forward is my only solace. We need to have a game against Baltimore like last year. Maybe last week was a wake up call now it is time for the Ravens to feel our wrath. I only hope that Coach Tomlin and Coach Arians feel what Steeler Nation feels and gets it right. Losing is part of the game but being embarrassed is not. So hold on to your feathers Ravens, the boys in Black and Gold are pissed.

We have plenty of depth at defense therefore I am not worried. Our offense will not let us down again. I know them and besides Wardy always has a good game with Baltimore. Gameday! Hopefully we can pick up the pieces and get the offense going against the team that I despise the most. Watching the Bears average, at best, offense score 24 points versus the Eagles and convert 3rd downs despite 4 turnovers just further drives the point home at how poorly the Steelers offense played last week.

Bruce Arians even came out in the media and stated that it was all his fault for the poor showing...yeah Bruce, next you're gonna inform us that the sky is blue. Mix in a misdirection play or a three step drop this week and maybe we'll believe you but until then stop talking to the media and get ready for B'more to blitz tonight like there's no tomorrow.

It'll be good to see Townsend back on the field tonight as all indications are that he'll be ready to play and it was even more encouraging to see how well McFadden played in his absence. The defense should really give the Ravens fits and Pittsburgh should see some good field position as a result.

I've been hoping for Mendenhall to get some more PT but I didn't want it to be due to an injury to Willie Parker. Tonight he'll get his first opportunity to shine and he'll do it on the big stage of MNF. Let's all pray that the fumbleitis that plagued him in the pre-season has been cured as you know that the B-more D will be raking the ball all night.

Maybe we'll see the passing game be more of the offense's focus tonight as a way to limit the number of opportunities for the Slasher (#52)and company to knock the ball loose and to take advantage of a banged up Ravens secondary. Samari Rolle and Dawan Landry are out, Chris McAlister has a bum knee and Ed Reed is still having nightmares from last year's visit to Pittsburgh.

If the offensive line can keep the Ravens off of Roethlisberger, if Mendenhall can hold onto the ball as if it weren't greased and if someone keeps Arians awake, the Steelers should be able to move the ball effectively.

Obviously, there are a lot of "if's" on that side of the ball but I KNOW that Pittsburgh SHOULD win the game tonight at home as the D should be able to limit the Ravens opportunities to score points even without Hampton(provided the special teams keep 'em honest and the Steeler offense can keep the T/O margin in our favor).

I don't if it's Pittsburgh by a little or by a lot, but there's no way they can't be pumped up to make up for last week's fiasco.

    Please, Bruce, you're killing me...

I still am not pleased with Bruce Arians play calling especially when Ben did a quarterback draw on a 2nd and 7. Anyway, the team pulled together and won. Physically we are beaten up pretty bad but we just need to get by Jacksonville (which I will be attending) and we will get a much needed week off. I don't know if its me but I don't remember our team being so banged up so early before. Is it because of lack of discipline in training camp or is it because everybody wants to play smash mouth football like the steelers?
Hang in there steelers for one more week and you will get some well deserved rest.
    Go Steelers!

My First NFL Game LIVE (10-5-08):

After leaving later than planned, getting food, and helping a hurt stray dog we finally left our beautiful beach at 4:30 pm Saturday. We rolled into Downtown Jacksonville, admired the gorgeous view from our room, changed clothes and walked to the local hangout called The Landing where it seemed everyone in the crowd was wearing black and gold! The late night of dancing, picture taking, and meeting interesting people ended with an early a.m. breakfast at Denny’s.

Sunday started with lunch, shopping for Steeler stuff and a tiny bit of rest before we adorned our awesome Steeler mojo and headed to tail gaiting utopia. This was the spot to get the true sense of “Fan”ism. After fried turkey, Jager bombs, a bathroom with an attendant and singing with Mad Dog the stadium beckoned us to come inside and feel the spirit of the game for the 8:15 pm kick off!

The sites, the sounds, the people, the players, the game – I soaked it all in as I watched from our seats on the 20 yard line the first half of the game. Second half meant new seats, new people and the indescribable sensation of a victory live and in living color for our boys of 26 to 21!

Our aching bodies never moved that night in bed as Steeler tight ends danced in our heads! Oh no, now it’s Monday and time to leave! Jacksonburgh had done us proud! We made it back to our favorite city exactly 48 hours from when we left. With lots of pictures, a few souvenirs, not enough sleep, but a ton of laughs, and 3 of the greatest people my first NFL game live was well……PRICELESS!

OK, now we are past our bye week and we are past the Bungals, so where does that leave us. It leaves our team with a hellacious back half of the season. First up is the NY Giants. I say if the Brownstains can beat this team on national TV then what do have to worry about. I say absolutley nothing!!!! I still believe that the Eagle game was a fluke, we are too good. So as we venture into the next few weeks I have no worries.

No worries means the teams that were supposed to rule the AFC (the Pattycakes,Bolts, and Colts), well they can get out of their own way. These teams are not very consistent and they are full of the injury bug, hard to overcome. As for the Titans, well, who have they actually played? They are good, but time will tell as the rest of the season unfolds.
As for the Steelers,we are the model of consistent play. I know some of you all think I am crazy, but hear me out.

The best offense, is the consistent play of the "Steel Curtain". What does it take to win a super Bowl????? DEFENSE. I believe in the coming weeks we will see the offense take off and catch up to the defense. This is going to be fun to watch. Just remember, we were 4-1 at the bye because of the defense and some flashes from the offense with one small hiccup(Eagles).
The Eagles only scored 15 pts and two of them were a safety, so it was only 13 on our defense.

I cannot wait until Sunday, which begins our run to Tampa. Win the division, win the conference, and win the Super Bowl. I am getting that feeling from this team, so I hope you all are seeing it too.

On a different note, there is a large amount of print lately about "Wardie"
being a dirty player. I think the other teams in the NFL are just jealous that we have the best all-around wide reciever and they wish they had him. That's that!!!! Just ask former Ravens coach Brian Billick. He was asked what he thought of Ward and he said,"I hate that SOB, but I would love to have him on my team!" So, good for The Black and Gold, cause we love Dat Dude.

I will finish this blog by saying: Steelers 24---Giants 17.

    See you all Sunday!!!!!!!!!!

    Steeler Mike Out!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you notice the number of blog postings after the Philadelphia game vs. the number after any of our wins? I'm as guilty as the next person, when things are going good, well you get the idea.

I have to agree with Steeler Mike above about this team, they seem to have that special something a team needs to go a long way this season. Of course there is a long season ahead, with the tough part about to begin so we will see. We have to dodge injuries, rely on our depth which I believe is superior to most teams in the NFL and never forget the officials. Last Sunday Ward had to be mugged to get a call. If the "interference" call Ward finally got had happened on the street the guy would have gotten 10 to 20 so I guess they had to call it. As far as Troy goes I'm sure he isn't going to get the benefit of the doubt either.

But discounting everything else this team will give you everything they have every time they step on the field and win loose or draw can we ask anything more? You can see it in their faces, the way Ward smiles after a viscous hit, the way they fight for every yard, the way the offensive line picked up Ben after a knock down a couple of weeks ago; they are a team in every sense of the word.

I'm looking forward to the game Sunday against the NY Giants. I believe if our offense can put together a complete game with the kind of effectiveness they have shown in spurts so far this year they will be a very scary group to deal with and every team will have headaches putting together a game plan for them. How do you beat the defense and how do you stop this offense.

Is that a concussion they feel coming on? Go Steelers!

We took one on the chin Sunday from the NY Giants. They all hurt but I was more disturbed when I read an article by John Harris in the Pittsburgh Tribune Review today. Mr. Harris blamed the loss Sunday on Coach Tomlin for suspending Santonio Holmes for the game. His point was that Tomlin's job is to win games and no one cares if you do the right thing as long as you win. He went on to compare the situation to one faced by Jack Del Rio of the Jags where he refused to sit Matt Jones even though the NFL had handed down a suspension for drug abuse. Note: The Jags lost the game anyway.

Mr. Harris believes that Coach Tomlin should have emulated Del Rio, let Santonio play and deal with it at a later date.

Some of us in the PCB Fan Club have responded to Mr. Harris and voiced our opinion in support of Coach Tomlin and I would hope anyone reading his article would do the same.

It seems we have forgotten about personal responsibility, Santonio caused this problem and no one other than Santonio is responsible. He let his team and the Steeler Nation down because he failed to act responsibly. I for one have lost a little more respect for him and am beginning to wonder if he belongs in Black and Gold.

I hope the time Tomlin gave him away along with the outcome of the game Sunday will cause Santonio to reflect on his selfishness, and responsibilities to the other players on the team.

On to Bruce Arians' plan to deal with Santonio's loss on Sunday. There is no way Nate Washington is going to replace Santonio and trying to fill in the offense with two unproven and for all practical purposes rookies was a joke. There were so many other options available to respond to the loss of Santonio on Sunday. Of course these options would have required some imagination and creativity, something that Arians seems incapable of. Remember when Cower lined up 5 wide receives and used Cordell as slash? With someone like Dennis Dixon and TE Matt Spaeth on the bench Arians couldn't come up with something a little better than Rookie WR Limas Sweed and first year WR Dallas Baker as replacements?

This Sunday's loss to an NFC team isn't going to cost us the season but the way Santonio the team and the coaches respond may.
